SORENSON INVOLVED IN "BIG ONE" AT TALLADEGA
Posted: Monday, April 28th
TALLADEGA, Ala. – Reed Sorenson, driving the Fitz Motorsports No. 22 Supercuts Dodge for the first time this season, finished 29th Saturday in the NASCAR Nationwide Series Aaron’s 312 at Talladega Superspeedway after being involved in a violent multi-car accident on lap 70.
Sorenson started 32nd in the 43-car field and ran solidly in the top-10 while battling overheating problems that forced him to drop back at times in search of clean air for the engine. Still, the No.22 Arctic Ice Energy Drink Dodge maintained good track position throughout the day.
Crew chief Steve Darne, atop the Fitz pit box for only the second time, liked Sorenson’s chances until the lap 70 accident occurred.
“We ran really well. With the draft at Talladega no lap is the same from one to the next, but most of the time we were anywhere from second to about 15th. It had the making of a good run for Reed and everyone at Fitz Motorsports; it’s just too bad we were involved in the wreck.”
Darne is a former crew chief at Rusty Wallace Inc., playing a number of roles there over the past few seasons before landing with Fitz in 2008.
The Fitz Motorsports No. 22 is currently 14th in Nationwide Series owners point standings after 10 of 35 scheduled races. The next race is the Lipton Tea 250 Friday night at Richmond, Va.
